Located in NoLiTa, Peasant is an Italian restaurant by Chef Marc Forgione specializing in handmade pastas, wood-fired dishes, and Italian wines served in a warm and refined setting. Originally opened in 1999, Chef Frank DeCarlo built much of Peasant with his own two hands and served the kind of rustic Italian food that he always wanted to eat. Chef Frank, along with his wife Dulcinea Benson who ran the front of the house, operated one of the most beloved neighborhood spots for over twenty years until he decided to ask Chef Marc Forgione to take over the restaurant.

While living in the neighborhood for over a decade, Peasant was one of Chef Marc Forgione’s favorite restaurants so he was thrilled at the opportunity to keep the spirit of Peasant alive. It was important to him that the restaurant focused on the ancient method of cooking with live fire and smoke. Chef Forgione has also always been passionate about working with local farms and purveyors to get seasonal & wild vegetables, animals and sustainable seafood. All of our pastas are made daily in-house and based on Italian classics but with innovative twists. Our wine list features a wide range of Italian sparkling, white, and red wines.

"Every morning we light a fire and start cooking. What’s better than that?"  -- Chef Marc Forgione
